SA Derby Weekend Preview

Great weekend of racing ahead with the Doomben 10,000 and the SA Derby headlining an array of Group racing.

Cheat Sheet

Doomben

Race 4 – 1.10pm

Shapes up as another race in two here with Xebec (11) taking The ‘Cock’s top billing from Goathland (12), and both of these runners are very capable of continuing their winning form and even exceeding expectations to blitz a few of these.

Goathland (12) is likely to show more urgency to sit on the pace early in the piece whilst Xebec (11) takes a midfield sit, but the tempo will only be moderate and give both runners an equal chance of taking it out down the stretch.

With top quotes of $6 on offer for Xebec (11) & $5.50 for Goathland (12), The ‘Cock will be happy to take a two-pronged approach to this one to cover all bases with a medium bet on each.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Xebec (11) at $6 with Ladbrokes and Goathland (12) at $5.50 with Bet365 provide value for money that is too good to refuse in this race.

Caulfield

Race 7 – 3.40pm

This is much the same as the previous leg in that it is another tough field to get a confident read on and betting is wide open once more, with The ‘Cock rating Inn Keeper (8) as the best of them from Wise Hero (3), Princeton Spirit (12) & Manolo Blahniq (11).

Manolo Blahniq (11) will prove the exception among that trio as the only one not to drive forward from the jump and contribute to a strong tempo, with the other three likely to be the front trio for much of the way and very hard to get past.

There is no real clear-cut favourite in the race so The ‘Cock is comfortable taking a small stake on Inn Keeper (8), backing him to add to his five wins from seven outings to start his career.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Nothing too complex about this one with a small nod to the $6 with Ladbrokes for Inn Keeper (8) the only play to make.

Morphettville

Race 8 – 5.12pm

It’s a huge field to close out the day and there are plenty of chances worth respecting right throughout it, so The ‘Cock will be looking to take some value from it to cap off another winning day.

Tildy Lad (21) covered a heap of extra ground last time out here over 1000m and was far from disgraced, rating well through the running of The ‘Cock’s algorithms and looking a good prospect for a small bite given the double-figure odds on offer.

He goes in just ahead of Split Lip (4), with Stragun (8), Rock Status (7) & Azazel (22) the best of the rest, though only Split Lip (4) commands any attention from a betting perspective at $5 with Bet365 following a win at this track and trip last time out.

Happy to have each of these two names on the ticket in a small way to finish the day on a high.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

The ‘Cock’s final order for the day in Adelaide will be two conservative looks to Tildy Lad (21) at $11 with Sportsbet and Split Lip (4) at $5 with Bet365.
