Queen of Turf Weekend Review

Placings was the theme of the day for The 'Cock on Day 2 of The Championships. Although many of the selections firmed considerably from their opening prices which does indicate that they were good bets. By continuously taking the early price over the long run you will be ahead.

Cheat Sheet

Randwick

R1. Aristocratic Miss – 3rd. Opened at $4 jumped at $5. Had a good ride just didn’t run out the 1600m.

R2. Dark Dream – 2nd. A great bet was $14 into $8. Rattled home to be nutted on the line.

R3. No bet, but if you must Gongs – Unplaced

R4. Manhattan Mist (Scratched) & Pomelo – Unplaced

R5. No bet

R6. Hiyaam at $5+ – 2nd. Broke the rest of the field with a bold run out front. Was chased down in the dying stages by the race favourite Unforgotten.

R7. No bet

R8. Sir Charles Road – 3rd. $7.50 into $6. Had a nice trail into the straight just couldn’t quicken when required like Who Shot The Barman did.

R9. Spanish Reef – Unplaced & Silent Sedition – Unplaced. Both had solid backing in the market as they shortened from opening price but neither were able to deliver on that movement.

R10. Quilista – WIN – Ran a bold race out in front in typical fashion and slipped away with no chance of being caught. Was $5 out to $6 late in the betting.

1 win and 4 placings for the day at Randwick. Support in the market for Dark Dream ($14 into $8) and Sir Charles Road ($7.50 into $6) indicates that these were good bets and in the long run if you are taking the early price you will be in front. Pulled the right rein with Quilista going hard at it to finish off. Aristocratic Miss in the first was a disappointment as it was the other high confidence bet at the track.

Caulfield

R6. Grey Lion – Unplaced. Was the biggest mover of the race coming in from $8.50 to $5 but was unable to produce what the market was predicting.

R7. Reilmartini – WIN – A big push in the betting $12 into $7. Great ride and great result if you took the $12 early market.

R8. Handsome Thief (Scratched)

R9. No Bet Race

Quite a guarded day at Caulfield for The 'Cock, especially with Handsome Thief being scratched in the 8th. Grey Lion was a big mover in the market from $8.50 to $5. Reilmartini saw a big push in the market as well from $12 to $7 and was able to get the win. Another one where taking the early prices was the right strategy.

Sunshine Coast

R6. No bet

R7. La Scopa. 2nd. A great bet was $6 into $4.20. Was another that got nosed on the line after a barnstorming run from the back of the field.

R8. Sista Act – Unplaced. Went too hard upfront and paid the price as it dropped out during the straight.

R9. Guard of Honour – 2nd. Was $2.30 into $1.85. Was in a battle over the last 150m and was caught just on the line.

Two seconds from three bets at Sunshine Coast, both falling marginally short. La Scopa and Guard of Honour saw heavy backing in the market as they both shortened considerably.

Morphettville

R5. No bet

R6. Mystified – Unplaced. Was $4.20 int0 $3.30. Trapped 6 wide from the start and had nothing left in the tank come the straight.

R7. Civil Disobedience – Unplaced. Slight drift before the start of the race as it jumped at $9. Got too far back and ran on gamely for 5th.

R8. No bet

The 'Cock was fairly conservative with his approach in Adelaide with Mystified in race 6 his main push. This was another that opened at overs as it shortened from $4.20 to $3.30. Didn't get an ideal run and finished out of the placings as did Civil Disobedience in the seventh.

Ascot

R6. Friar Fox – Unplaced. $2.10 into $1.70 and did not come on from the back of the field.

R7. Lady Cosmology – 2nd. Remained solid at $4.20. Worked home well, the leader kicked clear and was too far in front.

R8. Middle Earth – Unplaced. Remained solid at $5.50. Got a nice enough run just didn’t have the turn of foot when called upon.

R9. My Laina – Unplaced. Eased a point in the market before they jumped. Never really got going in the race and ended up midfield.

Outside of Lady Cosmology in the seventh, which ran second, Ascot was a track to forget for The 'Cock. No selections eased dramatically but other than Friar Fox in the sixth they all remained fairly solid around their opening prices.
