Doncaster Mile Weekend Review

The 'Cock found a few selections that firmed considerably yet didn't quite get the result. Whilst he got one with Levendi in the Derby ($13 into $6) and he would have loved a few more of those to land. On reflection it was a day where as a punter The 'Cock did all the right things.

Cheat Sheet

Rosehill

Race 1 – 11.30pm

There is a hot early price on offer for Enbihaar (8) to kick start the day on, with the $3 with Bet365 likely to last about as long as Ben Elton Live, so you’ll want to grab it quickly.

Very few concerns around the limited form and the 42-day break given the quality she showed when winning the Blue Diamond Prelude on debut, before coming in second in the main event behind Written By and suggesting she has a clear class advantage on this opposition.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

A good chance to test your swing early in the day here, with anything close to $3 for Enbihaar (8) and offer to have a good go at.

Race 2 – 12.10pm

It hasn’t taken long for The ‘Cock to find a peach today, with Sambro (6) one of the best bets anywhere throughout the country for the entire day at that $9 early price with Bet365.

Returned in good fashion for second at Warwick Farm last time out and should get a very easy time of it in the leading few here with only a moderate tempo in the race that will help him go one better today.

Holy Snow (1) is the biggest danger to him as the market suggests, but The ‘Cock would need upwards of $5 before considering a small insurance stake on him.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

The $9 for Sambro (6) is close to double The ‘Cock’s marked price and one of the genuine must have bets for the day, so set a strong stake accordingly.

Race 3 – 12.45pm

This is just about a match race here between Demerara (8) & She’s So High (6), and the market has it just about spot on with their $3.20 & $5 respective quotes.

There will be an extremely hot pace set by the likes of Houtzen (4), Debonairly (5), Dinnigan (15) & Sweet Deal (14), though a group of five or six other runners including Demerara (8) & She’s So High (6) will look for a spot just off the pace and make them earn the lead.

With three-quarters of the field resuming from breaks to add a degree of uncertainty right across the board, The ‘Cock could quite comfortably sit this one out and enjoy the show.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Put the feet up, pour a glass of Glenfiddich ’68 (it’s never too early) and watch this one without investment.

Race 4 – 1.20pm

It’s a big field with a whole lot of pace to offer in this Country Championship race, though to say that the front-running group of Ori On Fire (21), O’So Hazy (11), Cosmologist (7) & Incision (22) are very unlikely to be there when it matters most is an understatement to rival calling The ‘Cock ‘’one of’’ the most wealthy punters in Australia.

There is very little splitting his top trio of Snitz (4), Suncraze (1) & Don’t Give A Dam (3) in this one, but the value differential between the three sees Snitz (4) as the best bet at the current $8 top quote, compared to the $4.20 and $4.40 for the next pair.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Simple play here with a small best of the best stake on Snitz (4).

Race 5 – 1.45pm

This one is a tricky proposition with absolutely no pace on the agenda outside of Cismontane (7), who will look to replicate his win in the Lexus with Baster on board, and with the Adelaide Cup form of Fanatic (5), Ormito (13) & Double Bluff (9) particularly tough to line up The ‘Cock has very little confidence betting.

The Cup rated very well across the board but whether those three runners can hit the same level dropping back to 2600m today has to be a major concern. They are three of close to ten runners who could quite easily win this race.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

An interesting race, The ‘Cock could have a small best of the best bet on Fanatic (5) but would otherwise be happy to watch them go around.

Race 6 – 2.30pm

The best bet sirens were going off at Peacock HQ when the early prices dropped and it was all about Oohood (13), who looks to have a huge margin on all other runners in this field and can be penciled in as the winner, with only Seabrook (14) looking remotely capable of running her close.

The market has rightly got these two rated one and two, but the $4 price for Oohood (13) is still completely exorbitant and has The ‘Cock is licking his lips, as he prepares to play a hand that will bookies ducking for cover.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Look no further than Oohood (13) at the $4. The ‘Cock expects her to start closer to $2.50 so jump on those overs while they’re hot.

Race 7 – 3.10pm

A fantastic spectacle on the cards here for the Australian Derby with The ‘Cock finding barely a length to separate the top ten runners in the field, but unfortunately that makes it an impossible race to have any betting confidence in.

The top-rated trio is Ace High (1), Furore (8) & Vin De Dance (2), but such is the evenness of the field that The ‘Cock wouldn’t be touching anything under $10.

Instead, look to have small bets on Levendi (6) at $13, Tangled (3) at $18 & Astoria (7) at $21 to get maximum value from the race.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Taking a low risk, high reward ploy into this one. Small stakes on Levendi (6), Tangled (3) & Astoria (7).

Race 8 – 3.50pm

It is going to be a different looking TJ Smith this year without Chautauqua winding up down the outside but it’s certainly not a field lacking quality and they will go around at a great click as per usual.

The ‘Cock can’t dispute bookies installing In Her Time (8) & Redzel (1) as the top two in this one and he fully expects the winner will come from that pair.

Redzel (1) is a hot favourite and should hold down the front spot for the large majority of the race if not all of it, but the market has underrated In Her Time (8) and The ‘Cock considers her to be the superior betting option in the race at the $4.20.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Great value available for In Her Time (8) at $4.20 and The ‘Cock will be enjoying a strong bite of it.

Race 9 – 4.30pm

This race is much like the Derby earlier on, with a super competitive field where all the favourites are right in the mix, but The ‘Cock is more inclined to look for value outside of these.

As such, he will respect his top rater Kementari (9) as such without touching the $3.50 unders, looking to a wider play with medium stakes on Tom Melbourne (8) & Comin’ Through (10) at $16 & $17 respectively.

Close out your order in this race with a small chaser on Cool Chap (15) at the massive early fixed price of $71 to have all exits covered.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Take a three-way value play once again here with Tom Melbourne (8), Comin’ Through (10) & Cool Chap (15) at very juicy odds.

Race 10 – 4.10pm

Cap off a strong day in Sydney with a high confidence proposition here in Harmattan (4), who has looked a strong type through her first three starts for two wins and a tight second at The Valley last time out and she is well over the odds at $3.50.

Like the Captain of your high school chess team, the biggest threat comes from Wedgie (3), who The ‘Cock will take a small saver bet on at best of the best prices, while taking a big set against the highly fancied Luvaluva (1) who isn’t going to be able to carry 60kg to win this.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Have the big eggs in the Harmattan (4) basket and some change on Wedgie (3).

Few selections at over the odds were able to run some big races with 'Comin Through' finishing second in the Doncaster at $5.50 the place. 'Oohood' beaten by the narrowest of margins by a $100-1 after being blocked for a run in the straight was cruel. Was able to land 'Levendi' tipping it at $13 and it jumped at $6.50. Another one of those days where races were analysed well with many runners firming from opening prices .

Bendigo

Race 6 – 3.30pm

Wedged in between two Group Ones in Sydney, we’ve been handed a race with nothing to split half the field on and with multiple runners coming in fresh from breaks to ensure there can be no betting confidence going into this one.

The ‘Cock doesn’t expect anyone should need to be told how to treat this one.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Like a Thai nightclub full of women with covered necks, stay well clear of this.

Race 7 – 4.10pm

Tradesman (19) rates marginally on top of all others in this race but faces the minor hurdle of getting a place in the starting field, currently listed as the third emergency. Should he get a run The ‘Cock will be keen to take a small bet on him.

Outside of this, keep an eye on Midterm (8) who is marked as the next best runner ahead of his first Australian start.

He brings Group level form across from England after making the move in October 2017, so monitor the market and look to have a small stake if there are signs he is wound up.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

A wait and see approach on two fronts here so keep an eye on markets and act accordingly. No harm in letting it go if it doesn’t come together.

Race 8 – 4.50pm

This edition of the Bendigo Guineas will capture the attention of those in attendance and the half a dozen people flicking to Sky Channel at halftime of the footy, but The ‘Cock considers it another low confidence race and won’t be showing many cards.

Over Exposure (12) is the best of them and rates narrowly ahead of Holbien (5), with the former providing enough early value at $8 to warrant taking a slice, while Overshare (1) & Sirriconi (2) go in alongside on your quaddie ticket.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Over Exposure (12) at $8 provides enough to entice a small bet, but as mentioned, it’s not a race to be diving headlong into so keep your powder relatively dry.

Race 9 – 5.25pm

Prepared to show more feathers on this race than any other on a poor betting day at Bendigo with Kings Command (5) rating well on top and providing must have value at $7 in the early fixed markets.

He is shooting for three in a row after absolutely romping in last start at Flemington to win by 5.5L which followed a win at Sandown the race prior. The ‘Cock struggles to see him being beaten, though the next best duo to note for wider exotics are Leodoro (6) & Land Of Plenty (10).

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Kings Command (5) is the standout bet on the Bendigo card and after a pretty slow day in Victoria The ‘Cock wouldn’t miss the chance to fill the truck up with a big hit at the $6 price with Bet365.

Conservative approach at a typically tough track in Bendigo. Proved to be the right call with a few long shots winning early. Had a confidence bet on King's Command and the market indicated it was the top selection as it firmed from $6 starting price to $3.10 when they jumped, just didn't get the win.

Toowoomba

Race 6 – 3.22pm

Zofonic Dancer (1) is marked ahead of all comers second-up today following a strong run for third at Doomben last time out, having churned out four wins from the five runs prior to that in his debut campaign.

The ‘Cock will be happy to invest with a medium stake, provided he can get $2.70+.

Outside of him, River Boy (5) is one who is capable of challenging after he peaked to win on a heavy track on the Sunshine Coast last time out. A repeat of that effort will hold him in good stead, so at $14 he is one to have a small chaser bet on.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

If the price is right for Zofonic Dancer (1) then look to have a solid swig, with a smaller bet on River Boy (5) at $14 with Bet365 as the palate cleanser.

Race 7 – 4.02pm

It feels as though ‘super competitive race with very little splitting the top chances’ is quite a familiar tale on the day, and this one is no exception. The ‘Cock has nothing to separate his top five runners on, and with no standout value amongst them, it’s a race to let through to the keeper.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

No bet race.

Race 8 – 4.42pm

A nice clear-cut standout here in Mr Marbellouz (16) who comes in with six wins from his first seven career outings and looks a very strong bet at the early $3.20 in fixed markets, with the only issue being there is no guarantee he will run as the second emergency. Be ready to pounce the second he is confirmed as nothing else will come close.

The next best runner Publishing Power (17) is the third emergency and has a huge gap on the rest of the field below him, but if neither of these get a start the race becomes a complete lottery.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

If he gets a start, Mr Marbellouz (16) is the only runner to have on your ticket at the $3.20 quote. If he doesn’t, don’t even waste your time watching this.

Race 9 – 5.17pm

The only runner ticking any boxes for The ‘Cock in this is We Built This City (14), who sits at massive odds of $31 in early markets.

He has got genuine claims after a super consistent campaign that justifies a small bet to round things out in Queensland and send you on your way to a big Saturday night circuit certainly.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Nothing outlandish, but a small stake on We Built This City (14) will certainly see your drinks covered for the night.

Quite guarded here with main bet in 'Mr. Marbellouz' being scratched. Zofonic Dancer never quite reached the desirable odds. Was a quiet day all round at Toowoomba.

Morphettville

Race 6 – 3.41pm

The ‘Cock likes the look of the lightly raced Moghul Empire (9) in this one after he registered back to back wins to kick-start this campaign, and third up today he goes clearly on top of the next best Von Costa Glass (8).

These two will be at opposite ends of the field for much of the race with Moghul Empire (9) likely set a strong tempo in front early as Von Costa Glass (8) looks to drop back to near last, and while The ‘Cock will respect him as the most likely winner of the race, the $2.05 quote for Moghul Empire (9) represents no value and can easily be let through to the keeper.

As such, there is no harm in sitting out of this one from a betting perspective, but those determined should look to the double-figure odds on Von Costa Glass (8) as an alternative.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Not a race to be using a strong hand on, but if you must be betting, The ‘Cock would take the value for Von Costa Glass (8) rather than buy into the odds-on quote for the favourite.

Race 7 – 4.21pm

This one looks to be all over bar the shouting before they’ve even made the track, with Whispering Brook (4) a clear standout and likely to start as an odds-on favourite.

She will be the second short-priced favourite in a row who looks to lead all the way to win and The ‘Cock certainly wouldn’t be betting against her to do it, with that current $2.10 top price about as good as you can expect to find.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Whispering Brook (4) looks like streeting them here so The ‘Cock would be launching into any offer upwards of $2.

Race 8 – 5.01pm

A tighter race than the previous two, but The ‘Cock absolutely loves the look of Shokora (3) in and his eyes have lit up upon seeing the $5.75 top quote that is being offered up currently.

She rates ahead of Pandemonium (5) & Hardly Surprising (9) who round out the top trio, with that pair both likely to go forward and drive a hot pace throughout.

Shokora (3) will get a cushy run in midfield and be perfectly placed to swoop over them late, and at those standout odds, The ‘Cock is prepared to throw down some big chips on her as one of the best bets of the day.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

The ‘Cock will have all of his feathers on show with a big strong go at the $5.75 with Sportsbet for Shokora (3) and suggests you do the same.

Race 9 – 5.35pm

Only two runners in this one even rate a mention with Lynch Mob (13) rating comfortably on top of the second-best runner Lipstick Lover (5) with daylight to third.

Bookies have Lipstick Lover (5) marked as the early favourite but The ‘Cock is very content leaving the $2.80 alone, wanting to focus his attack solely on the massive $10 overs on offer for Lynch Mob (13).

Lynch Mob’s first-up run over the inside circuit here rated well despite finishing out of the money and it will only take some slight improvement second-up today to see him eclipse this field.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

The ‘Cock will be looking to have a medium stake on Lynch Mob (13) at the $10 fixed price as his sole investment in this race.

Selections firmed in the betting and they were all thereabouts, bar 'Von Costa Glass'. Just didn't quite pan out the way the betting suggested.

Ascot

Race 5 – 5.13pm

The ‘Cock has got the perfect avenue to ease into these final four races in Perth courtesy of a standout top rater in Minus Looks (6), who rates well clear of the major dangers Denim Pack (7), Salubrious (4) & Blackline (2).

The two most recent runs from Minus Looks (6) have both been solid to see him run fourth and then third last start over 1400m here, and coming in third up today The ‘Cock considers the $7 to be hugely over the odds, so treat that accordingly and enjoy a good slice.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Minus Looks (6) is a very high confidence proposition and the $7 with Bet365 should be smashed while you have the chance, with The ‘Cock expecting that price to crumble.

Race 6 – 6.57pm

There’s only a moderate tempo on the cards here and it looks like playing into the hands of The ‘Cock’s top rater Fine Scent (8), who will lead or box seat throughout and be able to save plenty of petrol tickets to find a kick when it matters down the stretch.

Have her marked ahead of Abdicator (1) & Three Secrets (3) at the top end, with Fine Scent (8) meeting Abdicator 2kgs better off after running a length off him in a listed race at Bunbury last start.

Sitting at $7 compared to the $2.55 on offer for Abdicator (1), it is a no brainer to clear the front leg and have a good go at Fine Scent (8).

Recommended Betting Strategy:

The ‘Cock has Fine Scent (8) rated well under that current quote and can’t have any of his thousands of followers missing out on this gilt-edged chance for a fill-up at the $7 with Bet365.

Race 7 – 6.33pm

A host of winning chances amongst this field but The ‘Cock has Money Maher (1) & Tellem Were Comin (5) rating as the best of them, but given their respective prices of $3.70 & $4 he can’t be backing either in such a competitive race.

The market has this pretty much spot on so consider it a race to steer clear of, which shouldn’t be difficult at 6:30 on a Saturday night with your pockets lined with Peacock cash from the day’s fill-up.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

No bet race.

Race 8 – 7.10pm

Tight one to finish on with nothing splitting Sixpence Spent (4), Broker (6) & Scottish Trader (3) as The ‘Cock’s top three, and behind them there are numerous winning chances providing no real value. As a result, best not to cut into the celebrations of your eastern states fill-up to get on here.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Stay out of it and enjoy your Saturday night celebrations.

High confidence bets early. Got it wrong with 'Fine Scent' as that drifted from $6 to $13. However 'Minus Looks' firmed from $7 to $3.40 indicating it was a solid selection. Other than that top rated runners were winners in the last two but at the prices couldn't back them.
