Champagne Stakes Weekend Review

5 winners and 7 placings, was a 'nearly' day for The 'Cock with some high confidence selections running a place. Had a couple gone the other way it would have been a better day. Took the right prices the majority of the time as their opening price significantly shortened. It's important to understand that the ability to get overs when the prices come out separates the good from the average punters.

Cheat Sheet

Randwick

Race 1 – Small bet on Majestic Padrille at $12 – unplaced. Small bet didn’t pay off as it never really got going to finish midfield.

Race 2 – Medium bets on Test The World at $5.50 & Anatola and $7 – Anatola WIN and Test The World Second. Both shortened in the market and The ‘Cock got this one spot on picking the quinella.

Race 3 – Medium bet on Dothraki at $2.90 – Second. Another placing and was one that drifted before the jump and couldn’t quite get the job done as the market expected.

Race 4 – Good go at Holy Snow at $4.80 – Third. Firmed in the market early days before a drift just before the jump as the punters came for the eventual winner in Higher Ground.

Race 5 – Small bet on So Far Sokool at $4 – Unplaced. Firmed in the market and was the one punters wanted. Just couldn’t finish off and quicken when called upon to end up 4th.

Race 6 – No Bet Race

Race 7 – Good go at Trapeze Artist at $2.80 – WIN. Very solid in the market and again was the one everyone wanted eventually jumping at $2.30. Was tighter than expected but got the desired result.

Race 8 – Small bets on Almost Court at $15 and Vengue Masque at $26 – Unplaced.  Remained solid in the betting and ran a good race for 5th just couldn’t quite stick on when required but a great run.

Race 9 – Good go at Osborne Bulls at $2.60 – Second. Just a sickening beat to finish the day. Rattled home for second by a whisker and was the clear favoured runner in the market as it firmed to $2.30.

Caulfield

Race 6 – Cliffs Edge at $1.70 – Unplaced. Disappointing run fro Cliffs Edge. Was at the end of his prep and had nothing left. Jumped at $1.50. Few punters around licking their wounds with this one.

Race 7 – No Bet Race

Race 8 – No Bet Race

Race 9 – Small bet on Land of Plenty at $3.40 – third. Again was the one punters wanted as it shortened to $2.60 just couldn’t get the desired result.

Doomben

Race 6 – Small stake on Marble at $3.50 – Third. Drifted before the race indicating not many suitors but ran on well for third.

Race 7 – Small bets on Amanaat at $2.50 and Mr. Sneaky at $3.70 – Unplaced. Amanaat scratched and Mr. Sneaky easy in the market was a race to forget for The ‘Cock.

Race 8 – Small bet on Emphasis at $26 – Unplaced. Was rated highly before the race by many out there as it shortened to $9 before correcting and starting at $14. Didn’t quite have the class when it mattered.

Race 9 – Good go at Mr. Marbellouz at $2.25 – Second. Shortened to a $1.50 and was beaten by River Racer who had 6.5kg on him which was telling in the end.

Morphettville

Race 5 – Medium go at Despatch at $5.50 – WIN. Remained solid at $5.50 for the day and ran out the race very nicely to kick off the quaddie.

Race 6 – Medium go at Viddora at $2.50 – Second. Another placing for the day. First up was always the query and will be better for the run.

Race 7 – Small bet on Blue Morpho at $13 – Unplaced. The $13 collapsed in the market due to the favourite pulling out but it shortened beyond that as it was the one punters came for.

Race 8 – Conservative bet on Midnight Storm at $8 – Unplaced. Was certainly overs in the market at $8 and that was backed up by the $5 starting price. A good bet just didn’t get the win.

Ascot

Race 6 – Medium bet on Mizlecki at $3.60 – WIN. Was the one to beat and well over the odds at $3.60.

Race 7 – Small bet on Dark Musket at $6 – WIN. Came into $4.60 and ran the 3200m brilliantly. Was the one that got the most support in the market and did not disappoint.

Race 8 – Good go at Money Maher at $7 – Unplaced. Was certainly over the odds at $7 as it jumped at $4.40. Was a good bet and if they keep shortening like this you will be well in front.

Race 9 – Small bet on Run Liam Run at $4.40 and Sixpence Spent at $5 – Third and Unplaced. Both drifted in the market which dulled confidence pre-race.
