The Kingsford-Smith Weekend Preview

The attention turns to Doomben this week with The Kingsford-Smith and the Oaks the 2 Group 1's for the day. Both look highly competitive races and The 'Cock is expecting a boilover in The Oaks.

Cheat Sheet

Doomben

Race 3 – 12.21pm

A super competitive race here where there is no shortage of runners with genuine claims to winning it, with The ‘Cock rating Rising Red (10) as the pick of them from Smart As You Think (20) & Interlocuter (2).

The huge field will only travel at a medium click throughout and bookies have instilled Sedanzer (7) as the race favourite at sub $4 odds, a price which The ‘Cock deems to be unders that are better left alone.

Given the competitive nature of this race he would keep his involvement to a minimum, with just a small stake for Rising Red (10) at $7.50 following his impressive last two runs for tight thirds at Randwick and last start here over 2000m.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Give just a small nod to Rising Red (10) at $7.50 with Bet365 to get you through this one.

Sandown

Race 8 – 4.05pm

There are a few warning bells sounding around Peacock HQ around this race, with a middling field of three-year-old fillies set to plod over the mile and without much to split them by The ‘Cock’s expert assessment.

Truly Discreet (7) comes out on top of his ratings but only very narrowly from Honey Esprit (4), Smooth Landing (8), Black And Tan (9) & Palazzo Vecchio (1) and the gap to the rest of the field doesn’t fill The ‘Cock with any sort of confidence.

He would be looking to let this one go every day of the week, but if you’re the type to go slashing outside off stump Truly Discreet (7) is your best chance given the double-digit value on offer.

Recommended Betting Strategy:

Not a race that The ‘Cock wants any part of, but those who are determined can go small on Truly Discreet (7) at $12 with Sportsbet and leave it at that.

Randwick

Race 8 – 3.50pm

A rapid tempo will be set here by Oxford Poet (2), Sweet Serendipity (14) & Dreamforce (7)from the outside stalls, and The ‘Cock thinks this will play right into the hands of his top-rater To Excess (4).

He will take a very comfortable sit just backward of midfield and has shown he has the turn of foot to storm over them in that situation over recent starts, including that very good win in the listed Ortensia Stakes at Scone.

Pecans (3) & Perizada (11) rate relatively closely behind and it is a field jammed with first-up runners to throw in a greater level of the unknown, but The ‘Cock still holds enough confidence to play a conservative hand on To Excess (4).

Recommended Betting Strategy:

$5 with Sportsbet for To Excess (4) will do nicely for a little bite to see you through the penultimate event on the Sydney card.
